Orange tips

#1

Post by bizzy » April 14th, 2019, 10:05 am

dozens of orange tip butterflies around yesterday,
and every one a male, we didn't spot a single female at all ?

and as usual, most of them were constantly on the move, but a few did settle long enough for a photo :)

a few Orange tips about today, but only in the sunny and more sheltered spots,
again, only males spotted so far

I walked in the same area again today, and there were dozens of male Orange tips about,
but there was one female too, but it was the only one I saw on the whole walk,

while there were many male Orange tips around today, I only saw the one female !
I wonder why the male to female ratio is so different this year ?

just the same here, lots of males about, but only one female spotted,
I was watching something about some blue butterflies in Wales on tv, and it seems that the males far outnumber the females for that species, no idea if its a general thing with all butterflies, or if its just a one off sort of thing ?

I did slightly better yesterday afternoon :)
with three different female ones found, the males were everywhere though,
strangely, no other butterflies spotted at all, despite the lovely sunny weather :?

and a hoverfly as a bonus in the last pic :)
