Cinnabar moth

plenty of these bright coloured little beauties among the grass today :D
there is some interesting info about them here including the catepillars turning cannibalistic if food is short :o

lots of them about in a long grassy clearing at the edge of the wood today,

some only just emerged by the look of these, as their wings had not yet fully expanded and dried,

by the look of all those moths, we should be seeing plenty of those black and yellow caterpillars on the ragwort this year :)
they very few and far between last year in my area but it looks like some of them survived to become moths :(

heres a Cinnabar moth I spotted today, (just before we got soaked in a sudden downpour :shock: )
hope the moth found some shelter from it :roll:
one thing I noticed, was that it seems much duller than the ones posted here,
