odd growth on acorns

#1

some odd looking growths on some acorns,
not sure if they are fungal or insect related like acorns ?
some of the acorns had the growths, while others close by seemed unaffected,
mt own guess is they are galls of some sort,
any clues chaps ?

spot on Apple dumpling :)
it is indeed th Knopper Gall, with the wasp in question being Andricus quercuscalis,
I've noticed it more and more around the Sherwood area over the last couple of years now, so it seem to be getting more common.

well done to both of you :)
that certainly looks to be the one :)
i'm used to seeing the Oak Apples, as they are called, but this one was new to me :)
