garden full of birds

#1

Post by ashgale » February 5th, 2019, 4:07 pm

the garden has been full of birds for quite a while now,
nothing special, just the usual visitors, as listed below
Blackbirds - upto a dozen at a time
Starlings - a small band of 5 or 6
House Sparrows 20/30 of them
Golfinches - varies between 2 or 3 to a large flock
Chaffinches - upto 3
great tits
blue tits
coal tits
long tailed tits (these are now visting two or three times a week :) )
hedge sparrows
wood pigeons
collared doves

but todays highlight was a single Siskin among the Goldfinches on the feeders,
it didn't stay long, but i think it was a female, as it was a bit dull coloured from what i could see of it.

that Siskin made another visit to the sunflower hearts feeder today, along with a pair of Greenfinches :)
plus all the other usual visitors too,
but they all scattered when the female Sparrow Hawk landed in the tree !

bit of a bumper day in the garden for birds today,
in addition to the usual mixed bunch we get, we have had a pair of Greenfinches, a pair of Siskins, a Wrenn, several Long Tail Tits,
and the Sparrow hawk,
but also a large flock of Starlings descended on the garden for a few minutes, the most we have had for a long time,
as we have just been getting the odd one or two now and again :)
plus the local Magpie gang, generally making a nuiscance of themselves among the other birds

the Siskins have become regular visitors to the feeders now,
and with a bit of luck may stay in the area to breed :)
i managed to get some images of a pair of them late this afternoon,
(through the glass again, and while they can quite clearly see me through the window, it never seems to bother them, but as soon as i set foot outside then they are off :( )

they are a nice looking little bird :) the female looks like a small edition of a Greenfinch to me :)
lets hope they do stay and breed somewhere closeby, :)

a few of the birds that visited the garden this morning,
there were several others that I didn't get images of, like Starlings, goldfinch, greenfinch, blue tit, coal tit, collared doves, magpie,
and even a young Robin !
the Great Tit must have made 30 or more trips to the sunflower hearts in an hour !
