Peregrines 2019

#1

Post by bizzy » February 7th, 2019, 5:42 pm

i had a quick look at the cams on the Notts uni Peregrine nest site a little earlier today,
no sign of any birds, but it looks like the nest box and ledge have had a clean up ready for the birds returning for this years breeding season,
the grass that had grown in the nest box is all gone and the pebbles look to have been topped up too,
i suppose its a little early for the birds to begin nesting yet, but i shall keep visiting the site in the hope of seeing them at the nest site :)

i'd forgotten about those cameras !
i hope the Peregrines are more succesful this year than they were last year,
sad to see all the time the birds put into incubating those eggs, for it all to come to nothing in the end :(

had another look at the nest this afternoon,
just one bird, sat at the far end of the ledge, which flew off a few seconds later.

things are beginning to take a serious turn at the nest now,
with both birds present at the nest, with what i think was the male, trying to entice the female to take a look at the nest,
which after a long while feigning disinterest, she finally hopped into the nest, whereupon the male soon left her to it,
so she did a little rearranging of the nest, before she finally flew off too,
so hopefully that first egg is not to far away :)

i hope that first egg is not to early though, i remember what happend last year in mid March, when it snowed & covered the nest in deep snow !
dont want that happening again this year, or there might be another failed clutch :(

lovely to see them back at the nest :)
every time i have looked at the cameras, the nest has been empty, and no signs of the birds,
but i'm sure i will be seeing plenty of them once they get started :)

the female ( i think) was at the nest site earlier this morning, sat on the ledge busily preening,
no sign of any egg laying yet, but its usually around the Middle of March that the first egg usually appears,
